Week ending Friday 8th March
This week the children turned their hands to being botanists by studying, measuring and labelling plants. They compared different seeds and used their knowledge of what plants need in order to grow healthily when planting their own choice of seeds. We are going to monitor them closely to see what changes we notice over the coming, days, weeks and months.
'Supertato' has continued to inspire the children and they have been really motivated to create their own story maps using words and pictures. Lots of children really persevered at trying to making their own eye masks so that they could re-enact the story too.
The children have also really been impressing us with their number knowledge and have independently demonstrated their number bond knowledge by making flower themed part whole models.
Week ending Friday 1st March
This week has been all about looking for signs of Spring and naming the four seasons that we experience across a year. Whilst outside looking for clues that Spring was on its way, the children spotted a small deer on the field behind forest school which caused great excitement and captured their attention for quite a long time. The children used the iPads to take photographs of seasonal changes that they found, and ticked certain features off on their spotter sheets.
In maths the children are exploring number bonds to 10 and have been impressing us with their recall of facts, subitising and understanding.
Supertato and his enemy, 'Evil Pea' have been capturing the children's imaginations this week as we discovered vegetables that had been caught and stuck to the corridor walls. It certainly hooked the children into the story and inspired them to write!
