Please have a look at these updates with your child and find time to talk about what they have been doing in class.  If you have any questions or comments please feel free to come and talk to us or email the school office. Thank you for your support, we look forward to working with you and your children!
Below is a link to the topic we will be covering this half term.
Week 4

To finish off our work about our bodies we all created a salt dough handprint. We will let it dry out before painting it.  We then moved on to think about where we go to school, what is inside our school and what is close to our school in Ely? We looked at photographs and some of us created a map of Ely with our school, shops, river, park and Cathedral on it.

We have enjoyed painting again in art, this time mixing primary colours to create new colours. Some of us remembered mixing colours last year and are now able to verbalise what they have to mix to create orange, green and purple. Some of us had a great sensory experience mixing two colours with hands and feet and some of us have watched from afar!

We have had lots of wet days this week so have enjoyed indoor playtimes with balls and the parachute.

We are starting a new sensory story, Owl Babies and hope to collect twigs and leaves at Forest School to help tell the story.

Week 3

This week we have continued thinking about ourselves and how we have changed since we were a baby. We watched some clips of a baby on Cbeebies. We watched her move her arms and legs, listen to her babble and giggle, drink her milk from a bottle and begin to crawl.  We sorted pictures of what babies can do and what we can do.

We have all enjoyed singing and dancing this week. We are all engaging in the dance session with Sarah on a Monday and especially like dancing with teddies and the ribbons. We are also taking part in some yoga after lunch every day.

In art this week we learnt about the artist, Mondrian and looked at some of his famous works of art. We created pictures in the style of Mondrian. We printed black lines and blocks of primary colours. We also created pictures by sticking strips of black paper and squares and rectangles in the primary colours.
Week 2

This week we have started our topic 'All About Me'. We talked about different parts of our bodies and sang the song head, shoulders, knees and toes. Some of us drew around children and pointed to and labelled parts of the body. We learnt that we have bones inside our bodies and looked at X-rays. We listened to different sounds in the sensory story funny bones and painted x-ray pictures printing white paint on black paper.

In art we have continued to explore primary colours with paint and with construction toys. We have loved playing with the baby dolls and using the doctors kit and role-play kitchen.

In Math some of us are learning numbers to 10 using counting rhymes and games. Some of us are remembering what we learnt about numbers to 10 land ways of making different numbers.

Week 5

This week we had great fun in dance, dancing with hoops and ribbons. We particularly like the following my leader dance with ribbons and the driving in my car with hoops. Some of us have also started to join in with more group activities like Drumfit with the pool noodles and play circles.

In art we have been mixing primary colours to paint Autumn leaves and seeing how we can mix colours using pastels by smudging the colour on the paper.

We have also loved our new sensory story 'Owl Babies' and exploring twigs, Autumn leaves, conkers, pine cones with the play-dough and the water.

We have been thinking about how we travel to school and listening to the barefoot books singing books 'Travelling Along'.  Here is the link if you would like to listen at home.

Week 1

This week has been all about settling back in to school, getting to know each other, making new friends and getting to know and remembering the daily routines.  We have all loved spending time outside, sometimes on our own and sometimes on the playground with the whole school. We also loved our first soft play session this term!

We have been learning how to sit and listen as a class for short amounts of time with new friends, to take part in circle time, bucket, play circle and drum fit. We have been working on balancing in sensory circuits and beginning to do an activity in our TEACCH drawers.

We have done lots of singing and have enjoyed learning the story of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. We have been busy printing with paint to create a picture of a meadow with clovers and have added our photographs to it. We have also explored primary colours using paint and printing objects, big and small paint brushes, cotton buds and hand prints.

We can't wait to see what fun we will have next week when we start our topic 'All about me'.
