Autumn 1

Welcome to the Year 2 class pages!

Here you will find regular updates of our current learning, ways to help at home and knowledge organisers for each subject. Please have a look at these updates with your child and find time to talk about the new skills and knowledge. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to come and talk to us or email the school office. Thank you for your support, we look forward to working with you and your children!
Show and tell

We do show and tell on a Friday if we have time at the end of the day. This is only for stories of things the children have done or items that hold significant value to them. We have decided not to do toys as these can cause arguments during the day times or can make other children upset that they do not have these things.
Knowledge Organsisers

Please take a moment to look through and talk about the knowledge organisers with your children. This will help them to remember the things that they have learned in their lessons!
Week 1

It has been an amazing first week in Year 2! The children have returned from the Summer break ready to learn, eager to make friends and keen to follow the routines. We have been practising our Phonics, talking about and writing instructions for feeding a pet dragon and learning about Numbers to 100 in Maths.

We have also been colour mixing in art, talking about safe adults and making maps of our school!

Well done year 2, what a fantastic start!
Week 2
In English this week we have been writing instructions of how to feed a pet LION! The children have been using instruction words- First, next, then, after that, finally and adding describing words to their instructions.
In Maths we have been learning more about 10's and 1's and plotting numbers on a number line, noticing if the number line is counting in 1's or 10's.
We really enjoyed learning all about the bones in our skeletons. Please look at the Science Knowledge Organiser and talk to your child about the new vocabulary they have learnt.
Week 3

This week in maths we have been looking at counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s to make our workings more efficient. we have also been looking at comparing the sizes of things using the vocab Fewer, More, Less, and Greater!

In English we have been concluding our instructions topic with a hot write on how to feed an animal of their choice! Please ask your children if they can remember what they chose to write about!

Finally, we have enjoyed cutting up,  grating and tasting ingredients in DT! We have been learning about balanced diets and why having one is good for your body!
Week 4

In Maths we have been looking at addition over the tens barrier by first adding to 10 and then the rest! This has proven tricky so please if you have some time to talk about this with your children I am sure it would help them remember! In English we have been looking at writing similes, fronted adverbials and sentences of three! These sound tricky but I promise they aren't!

Similes - The cat was as fast as a ______ .        The dog was as tall as _______.         The kids were as loud as _____!

Sentence of three (two describing words and a thing!) - Slimy Smelly goo    Giant Loud Bear

Fronted Adverbial (Talking about the time or place at the start of the sentence) - On monday, I ate some sweets!         At the beach, I made a sandcastle!

Finally the children loved making their own shops In computing, taking turns to be the stock taker, the till, the customer, and the card machine!

Well done year two, another week of hard work!
