Week 6
We have had a busy week with lots of Christmas events. On Monday we visited the church to listen to the Christmas story and sing some Christmas songs. We all seemed to like the walk through Ely to get to the church, looking at all the Christmas decorations along the way. In the church lots of us noticed the patterns on the ceiling and enjoyed singing and dancing along to the songs.
On Tuesday we enjoyed making elf hats with red, green and white materials ready to wear during Christmas lunch on Thursday. We loved listening to Christmas music while we ate Christmas lunch. The crackers were a success too with many eager to see the surprise inside!
Week 5
This week we have had good fun getting messy with lots of different Christmas crafts. We loved exploring bubble wrap. We then painted it and printed with it to make trees for Christmas cards.
We have also had a great time when we had some mums visit to make Christmas decorations and join in with some messy Christmas art. We made patterns in shaving foam, cut out shapes with Christmas play-dough, made Santa, elves and pipe cleaner decorations.
Week 4
This week we began by looking a lots of photographs of different forms of transport. Some of us chose to paint vehicles and aeroplanes. We also painted with vehicles taking them on a journey with paint across the paper.
We talked about what we travel in and sung the wheels on the bus. We then sung a similar song about a child travelling in a tuk-tuk in Thailand. We watched a clip of a tuk-tuk journey and then a journey on a bullet train in Japan which was very fast! Some of us found England, Thailand and Japan on a world map and labelled it with the different transport types.
We started thinking about a new sensory story this week, 'The Gingerbread Man'. We made gingerbread men and other shaped biscuits. We all enjoyed playing with the flour and the dough!
Week 3
This week we have started our transport topic. We listened to a singing story about travelling and then sorted pictures of transport into those that move in the sky, on the road and on water. Some of us have enjoyed building vehicles with different construction sets. We have made transporters, trains and cars.
In art we looked at pictures by an artist called Jean Miro. We all had a good at drawing black lines with dots and stars and then added coloured shapes.
Some of us have loved sensory play this week particularly the sand with black and green glitter. We filled pots and pans using spoons and then used the pots to drum along to music during Drumfit.
Week 2
This week we enjoyed learning more about Diwali. We watched a shadow puppet storytelling of Prince Rama and Princess Sita and a clip of how a Hindu family celebrate Diwali. On Tuesday we took part in a Diwali dance workshop where we retold the story of Rama and Sita through dance. We all enjoyed dancing with a large piece of fabric.
In Maths we have continued our work with 2D shapes, arranging them to create Rangoli patterns used to decorate houses for Diwali. We also used blocks to print symmetrical Rangoli patterns.
Week 1
Welcome back after the half term break!
We have started this half term by learning about different celebrations. We watched fireworks on the board for Guy Fawkes and talked about the shapes and colours we could see and the sounds we could hear. We created pictures of fireworks using paint, paint sticks in neon colours, loose parts on a black cloth, fabric shapes and by tapping small wooden shapes into a board. We loved creating our own firework sounds using musical instruments.
In Maths we have been exploring 2D shapes. Some of us have been trying to match different objects and shapes and some of us have been answering questions like find the odd one out and copying arrangements of shapes.
