Week 6

Final week for year 2 this half term! We have been focusing hard on Maths with Multiplication, Times Tables and Division. Practicing the 2s 5s and 10s with your child will help them immensely with their general maths but especially this unit. In English they have been writing diaries of recent events and using powerful vocabulary to make it more exciting!

On Thursday, Year 2 did a lovely in house performance for Mr McCaughan together of the music they have been learning this term with singing, recorders, instruments and dancing! They were AMAZING!

Happy half term!
Week 5
This week we have been doing some tricky work in Maths, learning more about multiplication and division! We learnt how write 2 multiplications using arrays. Please keep practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Have a go at the arrays below - can you write down 2 multiplications for each array?

In PSHE we have been talking about financial capability - we discussed what things people really need to spend money on, and what things we want but might have to save up.

In Art we finished out portraits, adding coloured backgrounds and images to represent our interests. They look amazing!
Week 4

This week year 2 have been learning all about multiplication! They have been working hard to solve problems and understand groups. It would really help your child if you could practice counting in 2s 5s and 10s at home as a quick activity as this will give them a boost.

In English they have been getting closer to creating their own versions of the story of The Tunnel by Anthony Browne. They have been innovating the story as a class but will move onto doing this independently next week!

In computing the children have been looking at Microsoft WORD, importing pictures and creating their own documents. If you have a computer at home they can practice some touch typing with this fun site (https://www.typingclub.com/) which will become a valuable skill in the future.
Week 3
We have had an amazing week of learning this week! In Art we have been looking at self-portraits by Van Gogh, Rembrandt and Picasso. We looked in a mirror and carefully drew our facial features. Then we mixed lighter tints and darker shades to create different skin tones to paint our faces. Next week we will mix colours and add details to our hair and eyes. Have a look at some of our portraits below.
Week 2

We have had an exciting week here in Year 2!

On Tuesday we walked down to the Cathedral and were taken on a lovely colour tour.  We explored the hot and cold colours in the stained glass and learned more about the images within. We used colour filters to see primary and secondary colours clearly and made our own versions of the windows! After this we went across the road to learn the story of Saint Etheldrida and create Matisse style collages using events from her life!
Week 1
This week we started the term with a challenge - using money! We are learning the value of coins and notes, finding the correct coins and notes to pay for shopping and how to add and subtract amounts of money. If you have some loose change at home please support your child with this learning. You can draw out the coins and notes and make a play shop to practise!
In English we started a unit of work on 'Portal stories'. We enjoyed using our imagination to create a setting for our character to enter as they travel beyond the magic door! We had fun creating unexpected, weird and wonderful things for our characters to encounter.
