Spring 1

Welcome to Clover Class Pages

Here you will find regular updates of our current learning, ways to help at home and topic knowledge organisers. Please have a look at these updates with your child and find time to talk about what they have been doing in class.  If you have any questions or comments please feel free to come and talk to us or email the school office. Thank you for your support, we look forward to working with you and your children.
Week 6

This week we learnt about the Lunar New Year that the Chinese culture celebrated at the weekend. We watched what Chinese children do at this time of year and how they celebrate with their families. We watched dragon dancing and then created our own dragon dance and music with the large drums.

We looked at pictures of Chinese dragons and created our own mixed media pictures of dragons with paint and collage materials.

We have also loved our new soft play sessions and we continue to enjoy play circles with the baby dolls.

Week 5

This week we have learnt about astronauts going into space. We watched some clips of British astronaut Tim Peake in space and talking to school children from space. We loved the water drop ping pong game he played. We labelled what an astronaut needs to wear in space.

We have loved exploring the large foam blocks, creating different height towers, buildings and rockets. Some of us also explored building rockets with junk modelling boxes and materials.

In Maths we have been singing number songs linked to space and counting  and space rocks and stars and matching to numerals. In addition some of us have been adding and subtracting larger numbers and finding different ways to calculate an answer.

Week 4

This week we have enjoyed a new sensory story “Whatever Next”. The story was brought to life with sounds of a rocket, an owl and an aeroplane, some water for rain and bubbles for bath time at the end of the story. We are looking forward to using sensory objects to continue telling the story and making our own rockets to have a picnic on the moon next week.

In art we continued learning about creating lines and created 3D lines using strips of paper and glue. Our art work reminded some of us of parks with slides, rollercoasters and water slides.

This week we started a new music scheme where we will listen to different genres of music. This week was disco. We danced along to the music, finding the pulse and rhythm. We then played hand bells along to a backing track, while watching a picture of a cartoon heart beating to help us find the pulse.

Week 3

This week we have been learning more about the night sky and the stars. We learnt about astronomers and looked at photographs of stars. We created our own pictures of a starry sky using paint, glitter and sequins. We have displayed this with our giant painting of planet Earth we made, printing with sensory objects in blue and green paint.

We have all improved our attention skills during bucket activities, with some of us also learning how to take turns during these activities. We are also all improving our skills in sensory circuits, learning to balance and stretch our bodies. Some of us are getting very brave and trying new activities within the sensory trail.

This week we have learnt some new 'Drumfit' songs as well as some new singing hands songs linked to our space topic.

Week 2

This week we have continued with our space theme. We enjoyed listening to the sensory story 'Aliens love Underpants' and love the sound we think the aliens make as they land on earth to find underpants! We talked about all the different features of earth and looked at photographs of deserts, rivers, forests, mountains, cold places and hot places.

In Maths some of us have been partitioning numbers to 50 with practical resources. We have also been learning to recognise the Numicon shapes that match to a numeral to 10. We learnt a Numicon song where we had to match the shape on the teddy.

We enjoyed an indoor Forest School session this week with parachute games, art with chalk pens and a sensory trail.

Week 1

Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a good Christmas break. We have loved welcoming the children back into school.  Everyone seemed very happy to be back. We saw some lovely smiles!

This week we started our topic on space by listening to a song about all the different elements of planet earth. We identified the sea and land on a giant inflatable globe. We showed how the earth spins and talked about the sun and the moon.

In art we are exploring different lines using pastels. We drew straight lines using rulers and then explored curved lines.

We experienced a very cold Forest School session where we learnt about wrapping up warm when it is cold outside and what we need to wear.
