Knowledge organisers
Please have a look at the knowledge organisers with your child. These summarise the learning for each subject this half term. There is some really interesting knowledge! Please find time to chat with your child everyday about their new learning.
Week 4  24/11/23

This week in Maths we finished our unit on shape and are now consolidating what we have learnt so far this year; delving a little deeper, discussing reasoning and using the mathematical vocabulary learnt so far. We've gone on a 3D shape hunt and explored their properties, counting on from any number up to 10 and securing our knowledge of one more and one less. (see below some challenges completed by the children this week.)

In English the children have recapped their knowledge of Traditional tales and retold the story of Little Red Riding Hood, they then moved onto learning a new story called Little Charlie, creating a class story map and actions to help memories it.

In History the children discovered Archaeology and learnt about a Bronze age settlement located nearby called 'Must Farm'. In Science the children were keen to share their knowledge on how to meet the needs of their pets and in Computing they focused on 'decomposition' which is the break down of instructions (an algorithm). We ended the week by creating our own group paintings in the style of 'Joan Miro'

Week 3 - 17.11.23

Year 1 have had another fantastic week of learning. We have written fantastic stories based on our own version of Knuffle Bunny and the teachers have been really impressed by all of the writing. In maths, we have looked at the properties of shapes and how they can make repeating patterns. In history we looked at sources of evidence and studied the inspirational Mary Seacole. I know the class were amazed by what she achieved. In art we looked at the famous artist Miro and had a go at using different types of lines to make incredible pictures. Well done to everyone in Daisy class this week!
 Week 2 - 10/11/23

This week in Year 1 we have continued to look at the story of Knuffle Bunny and we have been creating story maps that retell the important part of the story in images. We have started some work on 2-d and 3-d shapes and this will continue next week. In history we looked at our family trees and everyone had a go at creating their own. In science we studied the difference between mammals and amphibians and thought about how else we could classify animals. As always, all of the children are working really hard and we are seeing so much progress since the start of the year.
Week 1 - 03/11/23

In Daisy class this week we have had fun starting lots of new learning in all areas of the curriculum. We have begun to look at the story Knuffle Bunny in English and have been making story maps of the story. In our first history lesson in Year 1 we thought about what history is and looked at images from the past and the present day. Everyone was very good at sorting the images into the two categories.

It was also really lovely to see so many children at the Halloween Disco and they all looked fantastic. They definitely taught Mrs Golding some dance moves.
