Week 7
This week we have been learning about Diwali and how people all around the world celebrate this festival of light. We made Diva lights and Rangoli patterns with rice. ( Unfortunately our salt dough divas didn't dry out and become hard enough to bring home.) We also enjoyed the story of Rama and Sita which is told at Diwali. Then we explored our light table and the colour blocks. Diwali is a colourful and light filled festival.
We also learnt about how we can keep ourselves safe by finding out about the pants rule from the NSPCC.  We decorated our own pants, which I think you will agree are rather colourful!
We have had a really busy but happy first half term in Lily class.
Week 6
This week we have enjoyed the story of The Little Red Hen. We made some bread, kneading the dough and shaping the rolls. They smelt delicious when they were cooking. We have been playing with the small world farm, taking turns and sharing our favourite animals. In PE, we played Duck, duck, goose, as well as singing The Dingle Dangle Scarecrow and doing the actions. We have been building our concentration and focus during our Bucket sessions. Sensory massage helps us calm down after a busy playtime.
Week 5
This week we have been finding out about Autumn. We enjoyed a sensory story where we explored using our five senses, listening to crunchy leaves, feeling prickly beech nuts, smelling and tasting juicy berries and touching the Autumn leaves. We learnt about Hedgehogs and found out that they are nocturnal and that they hibernate in the Winter. We made our own salt dough hedgehogs using salt dough and twigs. We finger painted Autumn trees with colourful leaves.
In Maths we have done lots of practical addition using conkers and acorns.

Week 4

This week we have been reading the story of Oliver’s vegetables. We used vegetables for printing and had great fun exploring the inside of a pumpkin. There were so many seeds. We are drying some and hope to plant them in the Summer.

We talked about Harvest and found out that many people around the world at this time of year say Thank you for all the food that is grown. We hid vegetables in the classroom and outdoor area for our friends to find!

We have also enjoyed lots of sensory play. Some of which was very messy!

Week 3

This week we have enjoyed the story of Polar bear, Polar bear what do you hear by Eric Carle. We used our sense of hearing to explore some musical instruments and listened to the different sounds in Forest School. We used all our senses when we had a cold, snowy sensory story about a polar bear exploring where he lived. The ice cubes melted quickly and made our hands all drippy and wet.
The children have brought home their first library book. We hope you enjoy reading it at home before they choose another one on Wednesday.

Week 2
This week we have been reading the story of Funny Bones. We are learning about our bodies and will be focusing on our Five Senses over this half term. We looked at x-rays and named the different parts of our body.
We have been developing our fine motor and enjoying Dough Disco.
Week 1
We have been settling into our routines this week and making new friends. We loved playing with the new toys and exploring the classroom. Dance with Sarah was great fun and Forest school was  exciting.
