Summer
This week, we have had a fantastic start to the summer term, with lots of exciting learning across the curriculum.
In Maths, we have been focusing on multiplication, particularly counting in twos, fives, and tens. The children have enjoyed using a range of practical resources to help build their understanding, as well as taking part in investigations to explore patterns and deepen their learning.
In Writing, we have begun a new model text based on The Three Little Pigs. The children have been exploring how to make their writing more engaging by using exciting synonyms for adjectives. We have also been thinking about different villains from familiar stories and how to describe them. Some of the vocabulary we generated includes alternatives for “bad” such as evil, naughty, cheeky, terrible, and horrid, and for “scary” such as terrifying, eerie, spooky, and frightening.
In Art, we have started a new topic looking at how children are represented in art. This week, we focused on the artist Keith Haring and explored how he used poses in his work. The children created their own poses and took photographs, which we will use next week to inspire our own artwork.
In Science, we have begun learning about plants. We have set up an experiment to investigate how well cress grows in different conditions, including light, dark, with water, and without water. The children have made their own predictions and are excited to observe what happens over the next few weeks.
It has been a wonderful first week, and we are looking forward to building on this learning in the weeks ahead.
Summer 2
Week One - 01.06.2026
This week in Maths, we have been learning about position and direction. We have practised using vocabulary such as left, right, up, down, forwards and backwards. We played lots of games and enjoyed dancing to help us learn.
In Writing, we have been focusing on poetry and have learnt the poem We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We have also been learning how to use contractions, for example: we are = we’re.
In History, we learnt about the Bill of Rights. We enjoyed dressing up as lords, ladies, Members of Parliament, King James II, William of Orange and Queen Mary.
In Science, we are learning about materials. We looked at everyday materials that we find at home and at school.
In Art, we have begun a topic about sculpture and made our own clay penguin sculptures.
