Week One
This week we have been reading and reciting the story of The very Hungry Caterpillar- a real favourite of ours. Not only did we taste  fruit like the caterpillar but we have also been acting out the story with our cuddly caterpillar which turns into a butterfly. We used soft balloons to print our own caterpillars and made symmetrical butterflies by splodging paint onto paper and then smoothing it out. Each of us probably remembers doing to this activity at school!
In our Science lesson we were learning about germination and recalling what we already knew about what plants and seeds need to grow well. We have planted some peas and some tiny carrot seeds in hand made newspaper pots. We can't wait to see them grow so we can plant them in our outdoor area.
Do you remember we made hairy grass caterpillars at the end of term? Well two of our class have sent in photos of their caterpillars! They are super hairy! What do you think?
Unfortunately our school one didn't get enough water, so we are trying to make it grow now!

Our School Trip
We were very excited to go on our school trip this week. We got into our taxis and they took us to the Raptor Foundation in St. Ives. When we arrived, we explored the Reptile house and the bird houses. There were so many owls of all different sizes as well as lots of other birds we had never heard of before. We saw the meerkats being fed live locusts and mealworms and then watched an amazing flying display. Thankfully this was inside because the heavens opened and it just poured with rain! We were lovely and dry and being entertained by Captain and an Owl called Trevor who turns out to be a girl! He has lived at the Raptor Centre for over 20 years. We all enjoyed our packed lunches beofre heading back to school. It was a great day and the children all behaved beautifully.
Week 9
This week was our Sports Day . We had a great time doing lots of activities with our friends. We were so busy that we didn't take any photos!
In Class we have been learning about minibeasts and where they live. We have found lots of different creatures in our forest school sessions, so used this knoweldge to help us sort pictures of different minibeasts into their habitats.

Week 10
During this very, very hot week, we have been learning about bees and the important work they do to help produce our food. We have also been keeping cool with lots of water play. We made flower potions after investigating where the bees would find the pollen and nectar they need to make their honey.
In Art, we have been looking at sculptures of people. We had a go to try and make our saltdough people look like they were sitting down!
In PSHE, we have been looking at healthy eating and this week, we sorted food into the different food groups. It wasn't always very easy to remember which food belogned to which group but we worked together to create a chart.

Week 11
This week we discovered that our pea plants that we thought had been eaten by slugs over half term had actually managed to survive and produce pea pods! We also dug up our little carrot plants and found that they too were growing. It would take a lot of water and deeper soil to grow a carrot big enough to eat, but we were still proud of trying!

Week 12
This week we have read and enjoyed the story of What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside. Those silly thieves Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh got into more trouble and the sea creatures outwitted them!
We designed our own sandcastles and talked about what we liked to do at the beach.
In PSHE we have been learning about how we can keep ourselves healthy. We talked about getting enough sleep and keeping our teeth clean everyday.
In Art we looked at the work of Giacometti the sculptor and used pipecleaners to make tall people like he did.

Week 11

This week we have been finding out more about bees and spiders. We were lucky enough to be able to watch a bee on Iris class' sunflowers that have been growing in our courtyard. He was a very busy bee, finding pollen from every part of the inside of the flower.

We listened to the story of The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle and watched a time-lapsed video showing how a spider makes it's web. Did you know that they have spinerettes at the base of their abdomen and the silk they spin is very strong and flexible.

We tried to create our own web from wool but it was very tricky. We discovered that spiders have 6-8 eyes and 8 legs! We thought all their eyes made them look cute, not scary.

We also had fun making a delicious spider biscuit with sugary legs and chocolate eyes! They didn't last very long.
