Week 13

This week has been a 'favourites' week where we have repeated some of the children's favourite activities, stories and number rhymes. We started with the hungry caterpillar story and helped to put the caterpillar into the coccoon. We enjoyed the turtle rhymes in the water trays and made ice creams to eat again. We also finished our kites which we have watched blow in the wind!

Week 12

This week has been another hot one with lots of water play and other keeping cool activities. In Maths we have been making number lines with the giant Numicon and walking forwards and backwards along it. Out sensory story was was called 'STUCK', It is about a boy who gets his kite stuck in a tree and throws some things in the tree to try get the kite to come down. We stuck objects from the story in a carboard tree.

Week 11

This week has been a fun week with some fantastic messy play activties. We listened to the story 'Gorilla's Love Vanilla' about five animals visiting an ice-cream shop. The cat asks for fish ice-cream and the cow asks for ice-cream with grass and daisies but the gorilla asks for a vanilla sundae. We made choices for our own ice cream which included which flavour ice cream, which flavour sauce and what kind of sprinkles.  We all enjoyed eating ice-cream. We also had a play-dough ice-cream session and did number splat with whipped cream in maths. In the water we have explored herbs, grass and daisies and mixed our own potions.

Week 10

We have had a very hot week with lots and lots of water play!  We have all enjoyed a new sensory number rhyme about turtles being swallowed by a whale and loved splashing in the water amongst the sea creatures afterwards. We also listened to a sensory non-fiction text about visiting the beach, where we explored wearing hats, putting on sun cream, smooth pebbles, scratchy sand and cold ice lollies.  Some of us have done particularly well taking turns while playing a colour matching game in TEACCH. We have also been matching colours during a messy play session where we stuck felt and paper shapes on the correct coloured paper to make flags. The new light up blocks have also been a favoutrite this week.

Week 9

This has been a busy week with a school trip and sports day! On Tuesday we had a lovely picnic with parents before heading to Treetops soft play where we explored travelling over, under, through, up and down. Lots of us went down the big slide and we loved making the ball pit balls fall from the net.  At sports day we balanced eggs on spoons, balanced beanbags on our heads, jousted with pool floats and balanced on an obstacle course. Our sensory story this week was 'Toddle, Waddle'. We listened to the sounds that the characters make in the story like the dog, the duck, the frog, the train and the all the different sounds you hear if you visit the beach.

Week 8

This week we have had great fun with  water while sharing the sensory story 'Commotion in the Ocean'. We played with different sea creatures in the water tray like turtles and sting ray as well as enjoying the sensory experience of splashing!  This week we have also explored lots of natural materials including rose petals, lavender, rosemary and lemon balm and stuck them on to turtle shapes during a messy, sticky play session.

Week 7

Welcome back after half term! This week we have started a new topic all about the 'seaside'. We listened to the sensory story  'Tip Tap Crab' and counted lots of different sea creatures. We enjoyed getting messy with tissue paper, glue and paint to make a a giant crab to go on the wall and also painted some paper plates to make fish. Lots of us liked using the dabbers to make spots and splats as well as painting on the outside easel. We got the dressing up tabbards out later on in the week and some of us enjoyed pretending to be a doctor!

Week 1

This week in Maths we have loved the number rhyme about 5 monkeys swinging in a tree. We used a crocodile puppet to snap the monkeys out of the tree! We also listened to the monkey puzzle story and enjoyed meeting all the cuddly animals we used in the sensory story. We have got very messy with paint this week, using rollers to make tree trunks and printing on foil to make leaves. We got sticky using feathers and glue to make parrots. We were all very engaged in the music session and listened to a classical piece of music often used with clips of wild animals travelling in Africa.Â
