Here you will find our knowledge organisers for this term's learning, and weekly updates on our learning.

Week 1 - 04/09/2026

We have had a lovely first two days in Year 1!

We have enjoyed getting to know each other and hearing all about the children’s summer holidays.

The children have been busy exploring our brand-new learning area, trying out new resources and getting used to their new learning spaces.

We have also been reminding ourselves of our school rules: Ready, Safe and Respect. We are learning how to look after our new classroom, equipment and each other.

It has been a great start to Year 1, and we are looking forward to the weeks ahead!

Week 2 - 11/09/2026

What a lovely week we have had in Year 1! The children have been busy starting lots of exciting new learning.

In writing, we have been practising using finger spaces and capital letters correctly. In maths, we have used different resources to help us count carefully and accurately.

We have also started our geography topic on spatial sense and learned about aerial views. In art, we have explored primary colours, and in science, we have been learning about our five senses.

The children are becoming more confident in our new learning zone and are learning how to use the space and resources independently.

We are very proud of how well everyone is settling in and we are looking forward to another exciting week of learning!

Week 3 - 18/09/2026

We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 1!

The children have really enjoyed exploring our learning zone and becoming more confident using the different areas and resources.

In art, we have created colourful paintings inspired by Mondrian. In science, we have been investigating our five senses, and in RE we have been learning about the Christian creation story.

In maths, we have been counting forwards and backwards within 10. In writing, we created a class story inspired by Incredible Me, thinking about all the amazing things we can do.

It has been lovely to see the children enjoying their learning and growing in confidence each day!

Week 4 - 25/09/2026

We have had another fantastic week in Year 1!

This week, the children completed their first hot write. They worked very hard to write about why they are incredible, inspired by Incredible You. They used verbs and adjectives to make their writing more interesting. The children then turned their writing into their own books, complete with front covers and illustrations.

In maths, we have been comparing numbers using greater than, less than and equal to.
In music, we have started using the glockenspiels to perform a song together.
In computing, we explored Sketchpad and practised using the drag-and-drop technique on the trackpad.
It has been wonderful to see the children becoming more confident and independent in their learning.

Week 5 - 02/10/2026

In maths, we have continued learning about greater than, less than and equal to. The children have been working hard to compare numbers carefully, as well as create their own number lines. 

In writing, we have started our new book, Dear Zoo. We have written our own sentences about the story, made story maps and learned actions to help us remember what happens.

In geography, we have been learning the compass points and using directional language. We have used this knowledge to answer challenge questions and give clear directions.


Week 6 - 09/10/2026 

We have enjoyed lots of new learning in Year 1 this week!

In writing, we have been learning about nouns and adjectives. We went on a noun and adjective hunt around the classroom and then used some of the words we found in our own writing.

In maths, we have started using part-whole models to help us understand how numbers can be split into different parts.

In science, we used our sense of taste to try different foods. We talked about whether they tasted salty, sweet, sour or bitter.

In geography, we went on a local walk to look for human and physical features in the area around our school.
