Knowledge Organisers

Week 3

Year 2 have been busy planning and writing their own set of instructions for looking after an unusual pet. They have been trying hard to use interesting adjectives and time connectives. In maths they have been exploring number lines and using their knowledge of place value to label blank number lines which begin and end with differing numbers. 

In geography, the children have studied local maps and sorted things they spotted into either human or physical resources. Science lessons have seen the children learning about the human digestive system and the names of the different parts of the body involved in the digestion process.

Week 2 

In maths, the children have been learning to systematically partition two digit numbers using manipulatives and their knowledge of tens and ones and have been developing their understanding of balanced meals in DT by designing a balanced meal for a restaurant. They have been cartographers, and tried to make a map of the school site using google earth and their knowledge of compass points to help them. In English they have been editors as they lern to 'polish' work by checking for errors and adding improvements. Elections for the school council and eco council took place but the results are yet to be anounced! It's been a busy week!

Week 1
We're really pleased with how Y2 have settled into their new classes and new routines and how they are already enjoying their learning.
In maths we have been learning about place value within 100 by building and drawing numbers and representing numbers in different ways. A sparkly dragon egg caused great excitement and led to the children learning a model text about looking after a fire-breathing dragon. The children have been learning about secondary colours through the work of Kandinsky. They painted two set of concentric circles, one in cool colours and one in warm colours.
In science the children learnt what animals, including humans need in order to survive.
