Autumn 1

Week 7

This week we continured reading 'The Three Little Pigs'. We created collages of pigs using a variety of textured materials, allowing us to explore different textures, colours and patterns. This helped the children to develop their creativity and fine motor skills. We used a variety of story props to act out the story. Their favourite part was sying "I'll huff and puff and blow your house down!" We explored capacity by filling different sized containers with water using spoons and measuring cups. We talked about which container held the most and which held least water. We all worked together to see how tall we could build a tower using wooden blocks. The children took turns placing a block on top, developing their turn taking, teamwork, patience and problem solving skills while exploring balance and height. We have also been learning the name of our school and what class we are in.

Outside we used the giant polydron pieces to build a house, They fitted the pieces together to create their structure. They enjoyed taking it in turns to sit inside the house. We have also been practising our balancing by walking along on the path we made using the interlocking balance beams.

Week 6

This week we have been reading the story 'The Three Little Pigs' and exploring materials with different properties. Children made pictures of the Little Pigs houses by glueing and sticking straw, natural wooden matchsticks/lolly sticks and roller painting brick patterns onto their houses. They then had a go at drawing their own pig to stick on as well.

In our messy play tray we have had brown coloured gloop made with cornflour and drinking chocolate for the toy pigs to play in, the children had a lot of fun getting their hands in it and talking about what it felt like. 

In Forest School this week we made nature bracelets. Children walked around collecting different natural things that they could stick onto it.

 Week 5

This week we have continued reading 'Real Superheroes'. We have been learning about other real superheroes like shop assistants, refuge collectors, postal workers and carers. In our role play area we have had a shop, the children have really enjoyed this. They filled up baskets of food and then took it over to the till to pay for it with pretend money. This has been lovely to see and we have had a lot of language from them, talking about their experiences of going to the shops with their grown and what they buy.

We made police cars out of paper plates and painted them and added wheels, windows and a siren to it. We spoke about the shape of the wheels and windows. The children coloured in different pictures of real heroes, they also made cards and put them in envelopes and posted in a post box we had made. At the end of each session we then pretended to be a postal worker and emptied it.

Outside they have enjoyed sand/water play. We all worked together to build a pathway with the balancing path strips. Children then practiced their balancing skills as they walked along them.

It was Lovely to see all the children dressed up as Real Heroes on Friday. We had nurses, doctors and a chef.

Week 4

This week we have been reading 'Real Superheroes'. We have been learning about all the emergency services and what they do to help us. We had a doctors role play tuff tray set up, where the children have enjoyed dressing up as nurses/doctors and using the play medical kit to make the dolls feel better. 

We have been practicing our fine motors skills by scrunching up coloured tissue paper to glue onto a fire picture. Then we coloured a firefighter with his hose and cut both of the things out and stuck them on paper so it looks like the fiefighter is putting out the fire. 

Outside we have been using shaving foam and toothbrushes to clean the dirt off teeth pictures and talking about why it is important to clean our teeth. We have used spray water bottles to put out our chalk fires.

I would like to thank all the parents that were able to join us for Rhyme Time this week. It was lovely to to see you and the children enjoying singing the songs they had learnt.

Week 3

This week we have continued reading 'Eyes, Nose, Fingers and Toes'. We drew around the children and they used coloured pens to colour themselves in, as they were colouring we talked about different parts of our body e.g legs, arms, shoulders etc.

On Monday we had dance in the hall, the children all did well and listened and followed the instructions the dance instructor gave.

Children have been rolling out playdough and then using people shape cutters. We had a lot of fun with the coloured gloop, we used our fingers to pick it up and watch as it slid through them back into the tray, some used their fingers to make marks in it and then watch as the marks  disappeared.

We have spent a lot of time outside exploring all the different things to do from the mud kitchen to riding the bikes. 

Week 2

This week we have been reading 'Eyes, Nose, Fingers and Toes' and learning that we have different parts on our body. We have been talking about who lives in their house and then the children sat with an adult and drew their family picture, talking about who they were drawing.

The children had a lot of fun using the people shapes to dip in the paint and print on paper, once they had finished they had so much fun rubbing their hands in the paint and making handprints on paper.

Outside they have enjoyed exploring the environment and using the new mud kitchen making lots of muddy food.

Week 1

We have been welcoming our new friends and getting to know each other. Our topic for the next two weeks is 'Me and My Family'. The children have been collaging pictures of themselves, they looked in mirrors at their facial features and then added them to their pictures. They have started to make caterpillars for the class window.

The children have enjoyed getting to know the learning environment inside and outside.

A reminder that on Friday 11th September we have Rhyme Time where parents are invited in to join us.
