Week 1

How lovely to be back in Iris class, with so many familiar faces, and new ones too!  We started our term with some of our old favourites, making playdough together in preparation for developing our fine motor skills, squeezing, rolling and splatting our fingers into strength.  On Friday we enjoyed ourselves enormously balancing, jumping and rolling in soft play.

Week 2

We started the term gently, reading Stick and Stone, a simple but charming sensory story about the uplifting and empowering effects of good friendship.  In art we used potatoes and carrots to print our own sticks and stones, and some lovely green handprints too! Setting ourselves up for future dough gym sessions, we made playdough and we also enjoyed playing in Oobleck and exploring its perplexing and versatile qualities as we observed pouring and filling containers.

Week 3

In anticipation of a rather significant upcoming event in children’s literature, we have returned once more to the Deep Dark Wood.  ‘A mouse took a stroll….’ and so began a popular sensory story in Iris class, where we enjoyed listening to the noises that different animals make.  Inspired, we have experimented with watercolours this week, quickly coming to grips with the process to paint our own gruffaloes and trying to remember all the useful identifying features!

Week 4

We have so enjoyed the Gruffalo Granny this week.  Reading it as our sensory story, took especial delight in the cameos of some stories from last year, and we have enjoyed role-playing the mouse jumping in and out of the cage.  We made a lot of vegetable stew, chopping up carrots for Gruffalo granny, and enjoyed decorating our own chocolate Gruffalo biscuits, which were much more to our taste!
