Autumn 1

Week 4-

This week we have been reading “Real Superhero’s” and learning that when there is an emergency there are people that can help us. We have had lots of discussions and have worked out that Doctors, Nurses, Fire fighters and Police officers help us in lots of different ways using lots of different skills.

We have been busy supporting our mark making skills by creating our own name badges and then engaging in lots of different role play activities. We have been practicing bandaging our injuries, putting out chalk fires and being on patrol to keep the area safe.                                                                                We have cut up some pictures of ourselves and then stuck them back together, fixing our bodies like a doctor.

Some of us have had fun using crackers, icing sugar, raisins and pretzel to make our own fire engine biscuits.

Week 3-

This week we have continued to read "Eyes, Nose, Fingers and Toes" and we have been learning about the different ways in which we have changed since we were babies. We have also had lots of discussions about our families, learning that not everyone's family is the same but supporting our understanding of our own family. 

Within our classroom we have had a baby changing area, a baby bath table and lots of use of the push chairs to transport babies. These activities have supported lots of conversations about what babies can't do by their selves, but as we grow, we can do independently. 

Outside we have seen lots of children independently using the bikes and scooters, we have seen lots of creative obstacle courses being built and used. We have had lots of animal role play in our hut, often being used as a Lion's den and a lot of potions and food being made in our nature kitchen. 

The children also had their first trip out to forest school this week and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Week 2- 

First off, I would like to thank those that came to rhyme time on Friday, it was a great turn out and i could see how much the children loved it. 

This week we have been reading "Eyes, Nose, Fingers and Toes and learning that we have different parts of our body and that they feel different. We have worked out that Bones are hard, but our muscles can be soft and squishy.

We have been using cotton buds to create skeleton hands in our art workshop, moulding playdough into shapes that match our bodies, getting messy with some Oobleck and building a skeleton out of Xrays. 

Outside the children have been using our new nature kitchen to create their own recipes, drawing about each other with chalk, and riding our bikes and scooters around the track.

Week 1-

This week we focused on introducing ourselves to each other and settling into our new class. We enjoyed sitting in a circle and choosing who we wanted to roll a ball to for them to tell us their name. This helped us to gain confidence with each other and within the classroom.

We spoke lots about the different emotions that we feel and the face that will often relate to that emotion too.

The children enjoyed creating pictures of their families, printing butterflies, using tweezers to build a pom pom bridge, role playing their family routines and lots of outside play too.

I am so happy to welcome all the children in to butterfly class and to begin our pre-school learning journey.
